Excerpts from Kevin Pang's article on Guy Fieri in the Chicago Tribune on 11/24/09

Q: Gun to your head (Guy): Where do you go in Chicago?

A: We filmed at a crazy place that has still stuck in my mind: Taste of Peru (in Rogers Park). Papa rellena, lomo saltado ... brother, I'm getting goose bumps talking about it. The (Owner) Cesar (Izquierdo) is one of the neatest guys you'll ever meet. Tell me you don't just wanna give the guy a high-five.....And when my people ask what I want for my after-show meal -- I just ask them to bring food from the three best restaurants in the area. But I know there'll be one thing for sure on my bus when I roll into town. The lomo saltado from Taste of Peru.

This small Peruvian restaurant located in Rogers Park on Chicago's far north side serves many authentic native dishes. The owner, Cesar Izquierdo, is a colorful long-time immigrant from Peru who takes great pride in being able to serve up some of the best Peruvian foods found anywhere in Chicago. He is very proud of his homeland, so when you eat one of his great meals here you'll find that he has placed tons of posters and wall coverings all over the restaurant that will aquaint you with his beloved Peruvian nation and its culture.

The Taste of Peru restaurant has had many great reviews over its 12 year tenure. It's fine Peruvian cuisine has been given great video reviews with a top rating on Check, Please! and Diners, Drive-Ins′ & Dives. That's not bad for a little neighborhood place in a strip mall, wouldn't you say?

But what speaks the best of this restaurant's authenticity is the many Peruvian's who come here and brag about how they've been loyal customers since it opened, all because of Cesar's authentic native Peruvian dishes. They say that when they are dining in his restaraunt it's just like they're eating some of their Mom's (or their Grandma's) great home cooking back in Peru!

Come and try the Taste of Peru's excellent fare. You won't be sorry.
